The Glow Up Guide: How to Prep Your Skin for Summer Events

Summer is the season of events. Weddings, graduations, engagements, reunions, vacations, birthday dinners that turn into birthday weekends — June through August is basically a social sprint. And while we love all of it, there's something that happens every year without fail: people start thinking about their skin the week before a big event, when really, the best results come from starting a little sooner.
This guide is for anyone who wants to show up to their summer events with genuinely great skin — not "I'm wearing a lot of foundation" skin, but that luminous, your-skin-but-better skin that makes people ask if you've been somewhere relaxing.
The good news: it's absolutely achievable, and it doesn't require a complicated multi-step plan. It just requires a little lead time and the right approach.
Start 4–6 Weeks Out: The Foundation Phase
If you have a major event coming up — a wedding, a milestone birthday, a reunion where you know there will be photos — six weeks is the ideal time to start being intentional about your skin. This is the window where professional treatments can do their best work without the stress of rushing or risking any post-treatment recovery time landing close to your event.
At Mint, this is when we love to do a deeper assessment facial: really look at what's going on with your skin, address any underlying congestion or dullness, and start building a treatment plan. Depending on your skin goals, this phase might include a mild chemical peel to resurface and brighten, a clarifying facial if breakouts have been a pattern, or a hydration-focused treatment to rebuild your moisture barrier from the ground up.
This is also a good time to evaluate your home routine and make any adjustments. Not a full overhaul — introducing too many new products at once is never a good idea — but small, strategic additions. A vitamin C serum in the morning for brightening and antioxidant protection. A niacinamide product if you're working on uneven tone. Consistent exfoliation once or twice a week if you're not already doing it.
Two Weeks Before: The Refinement Phase
Two weeks out is where things start to get specific. Your skin has had time to respond to whatever adjustments you made in the foundation phase, and now you can see clearly where it still wants support. This is when a lot of our clients book a second appointment for targeted work — whether that's extractions to clear out any remaining congestion, a brightening treatment to maximize radiance, or a calming facial if skin has gotten a little reactive.
Two weeks is also a good buffer for any treatments that have even a small chance of temporary redness or sensitivity. Chemical peels, for example, can sometimes cause minor flaking or sensitivity in the days after — completely normal, and it passes quickly, but you don't want that to land on your event day. Two weeks gives you plenty of cushion.
On the home care side, this is when you simplify. Stick to your established routine, don't experiment with anything new, and make sure you're being consistent. Hydration, SPF, gentle exfoliation — that's your focus. This is not the time to try a new acid or introduce retinol for the first time.
48–72 Hours Before: The Pre Event Glow Window
This is the sweet spot. Two to three days before your event is the ideal time for a final treatment — and this is exactly where HydraFacial shines. The immediate hydration and brightening effect is genuine, it requires zero downtime, and most clients notice that their skin holds onto that fresh, dewy look for several days after.
We also love LED light therapy as a pre-event add-on during this window. Red LED stimulates collagen, reduces inflammation, and gives skin a subtle plumpness that photographs beautifully. It's one of those treatments that's so gentle you barely feel it — and yet the results are visible enough that it's become a go-to for anyone prepping for a big day.
What to avoid in this window: anything aggressive. No new chemical exfoliants, no extractions (which can sometimes leave temporary redness), no trying the new face mask that just arrived in your Amazon order. Your skin is ready. Let it be ready.
Day Of: Keep It Simple
On the day of your event, your skincare routine should be shorter than usual, not longer. Gentle cleanser, your regular hydrating serum, moisturizer, and SPF. That's it. Your skin has been prepared — the job now is just not to mess it up.
If you're wearing makeup, let your skincare fully absorb before applying primer or foundation. Rushing this step is one of the most common reasons makeup doesn't sit well. Give yourself an extra ten minutes and let your skin settle.
Drink water. Sleep. Do whatever helps you feel good — because how you feel absolutely shows on your skin, and that's not just a saying.
